Private Universities
Private California Universities

California is home to over a hundred private universities. Many private universities accept lower-division transfer students, allowing students to transfer with less than 60 transferable units completed. In addition, some private universities accept CSU GE-Breadth and IGETC patterns.
LAHC Transfer Center recommends students who are interested in private universities to meet with a counselor.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)

What is an HBCU?
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) is defined as "any historically black college or university that was established prior to 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education of black Americans" (Higher Education Act of 1965). HBCUs were established primarily to serve the higher education needs of the Black community, however, they are open to students of all ethnicities.
There are just over 100 HBCUs recognized by the US Dept. of Education that include public, private, denominational, liberal arts, land-grant, independent university systems, single-gender serving, researched-based that award Bachelor’s Degrees, Graduate/Masters/Professional Degrees, and Doctoral Degrees offering competitive tuition rates. The majority of classes at HBCUs are smaller and are taught by professors rather than teaching assistants, in a nurturing and supportive environment.
The California Community Colleges Transfer Guarantee Pathway to HBCU (CCC-HBCU) Program
The objective of the California Community Colleges Transfer Guarantee to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Program is the development of transfer pathways that will facilitate a smooth transition for students from all of the California Community Colleges to partnered HBCUs.
