WELCOME TO THE

VETERANS RESOURCE CENTER

branches
At Los Angeles Harbor College(LAHC) we are dedicated to serving those who have served, along with their families, through the transition into higher education. Whether it is a recent transition from the military or a veteran who served in an era several decades prior, LAHC provides services to all military affiliated students. We have several eligible degree programs approved by the Department of Veteran Affairs(VA) for all chapters of their educational benefits. (click here for list of eligible programs).

Veterans Program Support

At Los Angeles Harbor College, we are proud to support our student veterans. A designated Academic Counselor/Coordinator is assigned specifically to the Veterans Program to assist with academic planning, VA benefits, and job search support.

This Counselor/Coordinator must:

  • Have experience with Tuition Assistance, VA Enrollment Management, and CSAAVE

  • Be an approved School Certifying Official (SCO)

  • Attend mandatory monthly VA trainings

Our goal is to ensure our veteran students receive the guidance and resources needed for academic and career success.

Returning Student Military Reenrollment Policy

Veterans returning from military service will be readmitted to the same academic program they were enrolled in prior to their service, unless they request a later enrollment date. If the original program is no longer offered, the student will be placed in the most similar available program unless they choose a different one.

Returning veterans will retain:

  • Their previous enrollment status

  • Completed credit hours

  • Academic standing from their last academic year at LAHC

Military Withdrawal (MW) Policy
As outlined in our College Catalog (page 226):

Military withdrawal” occurs when a student who is a member of an active or reserve United States military service receives orders compelling a withdrawal from courses. Upon verification of such orders, an “MW” may be assigned at any time after 30% of the time the class is scheduled to meet. No notation (“W” or other) shall be made on the records of a student who withdraws during the first 30% of the course. Enrollment fees will be refunded with military withdrawals. Military withdrawals shall not be counted in progress probation and dismissal calculations.
