Prerequisite FAQs
According to the LAHC catalog, a prerequisite means the preparation or previous course work considered necessary for success in the course. The College requires students to complete prerequisites as pre-enrollment preparation. A corequisite requires concurrent enrollment in another course in order to be cleared to enroll. An advisory means a specific course that may be recommended, but not required, to take before or with another course.
For most of our prerequisites, it is required that you submit college or AP scores of a 3 or higher. However, if the prerequisite for a course is CHEM 065, you can submit a high school transcript showing that you completed a year of Chemistry in high school and passed both semesters with a C grade or higher. A high school transcript can also sometimes be used to clear prerequisites for certain math courses (Math 227, Math 260, Math 265, etc.)
Unfortunately, a class must be completed with a final grade posted on a transcript for all prerequisites taken outside of LACCD/LAHC.
