Promise FAQs

Los Angeles College Promise (LACP) is a program provided by the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) that offers two years of free tuition to all first-time students regardless of background, immigration status, age or others demographics.

Yes, students must fill out our college-specific application to indicate their interest in LACP.

No, only courses with a credit bearing will count towards the 12-15 units for that given semester. 

To qualify for Los Angeles College Promise, students must:

Be a first-time college student (never attempted units from any college), be full-time (at least 12 units), have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet the California residency requirements or eligible for a residency waiver (AB504). 

No, the student should follow up and speak with a College Promise counselor. 

Los Angeles College Promise only covers up to two years of tuition (4 semesters), it does not include winter and summer sessions. 

Students receive free tuition, free Chromebook, individualized counseling, internship opportunities, priorities registration, success coaches, student success workshops, activities, and events. 

No, only classes taken AFTER they finished high school or equivalent would disqualify them as being a first time student.

They can still qualify for LA College Promise! Ever since the passage of AB 19, LA College Promise expanded to cover ANY incoming first-time, full-time student who graduated in California, as long as they have a high school diploma or equivalent.
