Application deadline: Overseas applications received after January 1st for spring semester admission and August 1st for fall semester admission may be programmed for the following semester unless special arrangements are made. F-1 Students currently in the U.S. may transfer in up to the start of classes class space permitting. Applicants planning to file a Change of Status from their current visa status to F-1 may apply year round. Part-Time F-1 Students are welcome with the permission of the International Student Advisor/Officer at their home campus. Part-time F-1 students from other colleges in the U.S. whether taking a class on campus or online must provide: a letter of permission from their home campus International Student Advisor/Officer, a valid passport, and their I-20. Part-time students need to bring a letter every semester they plan to take a class so that the International Student Office can block insurance charges. |

Regular Academic Calendar: Spring 2010 Semester: Feb. 8 - June 4, 2010 Fall 2010 Semester: August 30 - Dec. 18, 2010 Compressed Classes/Short Term Session Calendar: Summer Session 2010: July 6 - Aug. 22, 2010. Winter Intersession: To be announced. Full-time international (F-1 Visa) students are required to take a minimum of 12 units of classes in the Fall semester and 12 units in the Spring semester. Summer and Winter Intersession attendance is not required. F-1 Visa students may only attend a summer session class if they have completed 12 units of classes in the U.S. during the previous spring semester. Summer and Winter Intersession classes are regular classes that are offered on a compressed schedule of 5, 6, or 8 weeks in length. Tuition and Fees: The total cost per unit of credit is $230. (This charge includes the non-resident tuition fee of $186.00 per unit, $18 per unit capital outlay fee, and $26.00 per unit enrollment fee.) Students on an F-1 visa also pay $25.00 per semester international student processing fee. Also, students with an F-1 visa are required to pay international medical insurance fee. (The fee for Fall 2010covering Aug. 15-Jan.31 is $438.00; for Spring 2010 covering Feb.1-Aug. 14 is $438.00, though these rates are subject to change. Students starting in summer or winter pay $219 for Summer 2010 coverage and $219.00 for Winter 2010-11 until the six-month coverage period begins.

Living expenses (housing, food, etc.) may range from approximately $8,500 to $14,000, depending on area and lifestyle of student. Total combined educational and minimum living expenses range from $15,680 - $20,894 for one year.

Profile: Los Angeles Harbor College offers a full range of programs preparing students to transfer to four-year universities and offers two-year occupational training programs such as those in Business and Office Administration, Electronics Technology, Computer Technology, and Nursing. Harbor College, which is located twenty miles south of downtown Los Angeles next to the Palos Verdes Peninsula, is situated on an eighty acre campus and is adjacent to an attractive public park and public golf course. The campus is only minutes away from the Pacific Ocean. Facilities include a Bookstore, Career Guidance Center, Child Care Center, Learning Resources Center with a Library and Media Center included, and an on-campus golf driving range. Safety: The campus of Los Angeles Harbor College is one of the safest campuses in the Los Angeles - South Bay area. (Statistics on crime are posted on all college websites, as required by the Jeanne Clery Act, so it is easy for prospective students to determine the relative safety of a campus by doing a Google search with "[College Name] Jeanne Clery Act.). Housing: Los Angeles Harbor College does not have campus housing. However, the International Student Office at the college usually has listings of rooms for rent with families in the general area. In addition, a small number of apartments are located within walking distance of the college. Others are within commuting distance by bus or car. Homestay services can also be arranged through several homestay agencies.These agencies arrange housing for students with American families and can also provide airport pickup services. Student Life: The educational objectives of the college are complemented by the services offered to students which include orientation and placement testing, individual counseling, academic advisement, handicapped student support services, career counseling, tutoring, student government, student activities and clubs. Included in our extracurricular programs are a jazz band, choral groups, theater productions, intercollegiate sports in soccer, basketball, golf, tennis and baseball, a radio station and many special-interest clubs.
Admission Requirements: In order to receive an I-20 from Los Angeles Harbor College for an F-1 (Student) Visa, an international student is required to file an application, provide school transcript, submit offical verification of sufficient finances, sign the Student Agreement, and provide evidence of English proficiency at or above the score levels of the following: TOEFL PBT 450; TOEFL CBT 133; TOEFL iBT 45;IELTS Band 5; TOEIC 500; or STEP Eiken grade level 2A.
