A resume is a summary of your qualifications to perform a job in the workplace. A resume should not exceed one page and should state your education, work, volunteer experience, training and any achievements you want to highlight in relationship to the job you are seeking. A resume will always have…
- An objective: why are you writing a resume? Example, seeking a position in (company name) as a (job title)
- Education: Where did you study and write any accomplishments such as high honors.
- Experiences: what training or jobs have you had that make you an asset to your potential employer?
- Skills: what skills do you have? Example bilingual in _____, specific computer programs etc.
****Make sure your resume is clean and easy to read. Always incorporate descriptive words. Always write your correct contact information, and SPELL CHECK! Remember a resume is an advertisement of your skills and attributes.

Avoid Mistakes in resume writing
- Font too small — Make sure that your document is legible font should be 11 or 12
- Spelling mistakes —Proofreader!
- Vocabulary— Make sure to use descriptive words, action verbs and try to avoid repetition.
- Don’t leave out date— Include dates on your resume. Your potential employer could think you are hiding something.
- Unprofessional email address — Use an email address that is professional. If you don’t have one make one, use your last name.
- Resume should be clean and easy to read! Don’t make your resume look cluttered.
- Don’t Include personal information like age, gender, and head shot — Personal information, like age, gender, and head shot should not be included on your résumé (unless you are a performing art student).
- Avoid abbreviations or contractions —your resume is a formal document
- Make sure you write accurate information.
