Administrative Report
Culinary Arts Program
Dr. Spink distributed her written comments on the Senate's previous
postponement of action on the culinary arts program and urged the Senate
to approve the program at today's meeting.
5% Reduction in Course Offerings
Dr. Spink summarized her written response to Ms. J. Smith's inquiry as
to the justification of our reduction in fall offerings, affirming her
conviction that doing this strategically will increase enrollment
without increasing costs.

Comment
Several members emphasized the importance of honoring Tom Bottone. Ms.
J. Smith informed the Senate of other honors to be presented at the
retirement function or at commencement.
Unanimous consent to defray the costs of the plaques involved.

Curriculum Approvals
DD214 and Honorable Discharge
Unanimous consent to approve the proposal as noticed.
Persons who have
completed basic training in military service are exempt from completing
the Health and PE (Area E) requirements for the associate degree. This
also applies to CSU transfer requirements except for Teacher Ed.
Programs.
Culinary Arts (New Program)
Ms. Fasteau summarized the pending proposal. M/S (McKenzie/Wood) to
refer the proposal back to the Curriculum Committee. After considerable
discussion involving possible deficiencies in the documentation and the
ease with which these can be addressed, the motion was adopted (7/3).
It was pointed out that whether or not the program is formally
authorized, it can only be instituted on the basis of two years of trial
experience. Mr. McNeel expressed the view that this requirement has
already been met.
Culinary Arts (Current Certificate Program)
Unanimous consent to approve a 12-month extension of the
current culinary arts certificate program.
Restructuring of Senate Committees
Ms. J. Smith and Dr. Thomas-Spiegel commented on the proposal,
unanimous consent to adopt the proposed motion as
noticed:
The Senate Academic Policy and Planning Committee is charged to consider
the restrructuring of that committee, or Senate committees in general,
to deal effectively with the new mandates for academic policy
development in multiple areas, and particular to advise whether the
Senate Program Review Committee shall be continued or its duties
differently assigned.

Evaluation of Administrators
Mr. Rosas commented on the concept, having pointed out that Mr. McNeel
is an acting vice president, and in response to an inquiry of Mr. Young,
confirming that Mr. Tan is an associate vice president, as required by
rulings of the personnel commission.
Fire Tech Supervision Funding
Mr. Rosas alerted the Senate to the necessity of adjusting the current
funding arrangement, noting the possibility of a consolidated public
safety program. There was some discussion of the process for merging
departments.

Ms. J. Smith drew the Senate's attention to her written report.

professorship, and Dennis Griffith and Jonathan Lee for associate
