Dr. Spink updated the Senate on the latest progress on Prop A/AA.
Textbook Prices
Dr. Spink reported on her visit to Sacramento with ASO leaders to lobby
on textbook prices, emphasizing how impressed she was with the calibre
of the students' presentations to the attorney-general's office and to
two legislators. Mr. Tan elaborated on the issue. Ms. J. Smith
suggested that this be discussed in Division Council and that a flex
activity be devoted to pricing concerns. Mr. Rosas pointed out the way
a full articulation of SLOs might reduce formal reliance on textbooks.
Campus Intercom Status
Dr. Spink reported that until the emergency last week she was unaware
that the intercom system was non-functional and assured the Senate that
it will be made fully operative. Other emergency concerns were
discussed for reference to the Work Environment Committee.

COMMENTS
ON DISTRIBUTED REPORTS/NOTICES/COMMITTEE MINUTES
FHPC
Ms. J. Smith reported that the appeals panel had met yesterday and
unanimously proposed that the priority recommended for the nursing
position be reaffirmed.
Budget Committee
Mr. McKenzie reported that the administration is apparently committed to
a reorganization plan, as well as to full-time faculty hires, that will
increase our deficit, perhaps putting us at odds with the
recommendations of the allocation grant task force. The number of
sections offered will also be reduced by 5%. |
