Executive
Summary,
Regular Meeting,
1:00, Thursday, January 18, 2007
T120
Call to order and approval of agenda
There being no objection, Ms. McMurray expressed the opinion that, while the issuance of the noticed agenda would have precluded action on a substantive motion at today’s meeting with only a regular quorum present, the sample agenda issued last Thursday constituted sufficient notice of the meeting itself; and pending the arrival of the regularly required quorum, the meeting was called to order at 1:25, and the agenda adopted with the adjustments shown below.
Administrative Report
The Senate welcomed Dr. Spink, back after a successful operation. The new district allocation model has resulted in over a $1 million yearly benefit for the college budget. She updated the Senate on the status of the playing field. Ms. McMurray requested, and Dr. Spink agreed, that the faculty will be properly represented on on Prop. A/AA committees, with Mr. Wood and Mr. McKenzie continuing on the Core Group, Mr. McKenzie serving on the Tech Building construction committee, and Mr. Young representing faculty on the Northeast Academic Building committee. The year's enrollment so far meets the budget growth factor, though current enrollment is running 2.6% behind last year at this date; final meeting of the growth factor depends on enrollment for the spring semester and the initial summer session.
Consent Items
Senate representation on the Dean of Academic Affairs selection committee
There was objection to the committee's having proceeded without the participation of either of the Senate's designated representatives. It was the consensus that decisions of the Senate cannot be disregarded, even under pressure of time and with the informal consent of relevant individual members of the Senate.
Resignation of the Senate president
Unanimous consent to accept the resignation of the president, with great regret and the highest appreciation of her skill and commitment, and of her indispensable role in reuniting the faculty to assert the Senate's proper role in college governance.
