Airport Operations
Los Angeles Harbor College formed a partnership with the Los Angeles World Airport Police Bureau in 1999 to train incumbent and newly hired non-sworn security officers. The Security Officer position is a full-time City of Los Angeles employee who works 24-7 shift work in the traffic and fixed post areas. The training program is six weeks in length, 240 hours of academic and skill training domains, and each student receives 11 college units upon graduation. As of December 2002, approximately 175 officers have completed the training. As new employees are hired, they are scheduled to report to the college for their first day of employment and are required to successfully complete the rigorous training prior to being assigned at the Los Angeles International Airport.
