Dr. Spink indicated that the shared governance document has been worked on for about a year. The Subcommittee included Dr. Spink, Jim Stanbery, Sholeh Khorooshi, Claudette Youins, and Nick Webb. We need to have this passed and submitted to the Board. The Academic Senate has set up a forum on September 18th to discuss this document. Jim Stanbery will facilitate the forum.
Sally Fasteau indicated that there are some concerns about the consensus portion. Some people may feel intimidated and may be afraid to speak up. She suggested having a caucus of individual groups. Mr. Wood thought the caucus was part of the discussion before the voting took place.
Since this is a noticed motion PAC can make non-substantive changes only. The following changes were made and Mr. Wood will make the changes/corrections:
Page 1, Article I, Purpose, Last Sentence
Delete the word Ultimate and start sentence with The.
Article II, Faculty, 6, replace from with “by” the Academic Senate.
Classified Staff: There may be other union contracts that require a classified representative. Mr. Englert will check and notify Mr. Wood.
Students: add appointed by ASO
Administration: Change 2 members at large to 1 appointed by the Administrators’ Association and 1 member at large
Delete Ex-officio, non-voting and change to Resource Persons
Article III, item 3, add which after Committee and change policies to policy
Article IV, Section 3, the last paragraph should be moved to Section 1.
Article VI, Section 1, Composition
Change Classified Staff Guild to AFT Staff Guild and add elected after the word one and before member.
Students – add elected by the ASO
Article VI, Section 2, Student Services Committee
Add the word Staff after Classified, change Classified Staff Guild to AFT Staff Guild, and add elected after the word three.
Students – add elected by the ASO
Faculty – add selected by the Academic Senate
Page 6, Section VI, Paragraph after the two functions. This paragraph should be included after every committee.
Paragraph immediately following should be put under its own Section, Section 5.
Next paragraph, should be Section 4, and add the word President after reporting to the.
In order for the document to go to the Board on October 17th, it needs to be submitted to the District by October 10th.
After doublechecking Ms. Ricci’s calendar and conference request, the two sets of PAC Minutes for May 3rd and May 17th require no corrections in attendance.
