The main topic of the meeting was the shared governance draft. Everyone was asked to review the first two paragraphs and make comments. Jim Stanbery feels this should be an experiment. Dr. Hudson expressed some concern that the College Council might discuss some topics and the Planning Action Council would discuss other topics. After much discussion, it was suggested that the College Council be deleted from the draft. It was also suggested that a notice be placed in the weekly bulletin informing people that they would see the draft on the web page.
Much discussion took place about the standing committees. Ms. Malone suggested that a Marketing/Growth Enrollment Committee should be included. We should look at our college goals and strategies and then pull the committees from those. Because of contractual negotiations the work environment committee is a must. PAC would be non-functional without the committee structure.
Since the governance structure deals with planning and policy, it was suggested that we do a flowchart. A question arose as to how these committees would operate if a vice president is responsible.
Everyone was asked to review the committee structure and subcommittee and have some recommendations by next week, Friday, February 9th. Dr. Spink hopes to call a meeting of her subcommittee within a week.
