Tutorial service 3 hours per week This course supplements all mathematics level courses by providing tutorial and self-help assistance. Offered on a credit/no credit basis only. This course may be repeated 3 times. |
| MATH 105 Arithmetic for College Students 3 units |
Lecture 3 hours per week This course explores arithmetic concepts from a modern point of view. It includes discussion of pre-algebra topics and applications of arithmetic in business, finance and geometry. |

Lecture 3 hours per week This course presents a review of arithmetic topics and an introduction to elementary algebraic topics including signed numbers, exponents, mathematical sentences, and linear equations. |
| MATH 113 Introduction to Elementary Algebra I 3 units |
Math 113 and 114 together are equivalent to Math 115. Lecture 3 hours per week This course consists of the first half of Mathematics 115 (first year algebra course in high schools). It gives a rapid review of arithmetic and introduces the concepts of algebraic expressions, exponents, polynomials, and solution of equations. This course, together with Math 114, fulfills any requirement calling for elementary algebra. |
| MATH 114 Introduction to Elementary Algebra II 3 units |
Math 113 and 114 together are equivalent to Math 115. Prerequisite: completion of Math 113 with a grade of "C", or better. Lecture 3 hours per week This course consists of the last half of Math 115 (first year algebra course in high schools). It gives a rapid review of Math 1113 and continues to introduce further topics in elementary algebra. This course, together with Math 113, fulfills any requirement calling for elementary algebra. Credit will be given for only Math 113/114 or Math 115. |

Math 113 and 114 together are equivalent to Math 115. Credit is allowed for only one of Math 115 or the Math 113 and 114 combination. This course is recommended for students who want a comprehensive one-semster algebra course. Students desiring to complete this course in a two-semester sequence should take Math 113 and then Math 114. Lecture 5 hours per week This course gives a rapid review of basic arithmetic with a gradual introduction to the concepts of algebra, including signed numbers, exponents, polynomials, equations, graphs, systems of equations, inequalities, and quadratic equations. It contains applications of algebra to a wide variety of problems related to business and other sciences. |

Lecture 5 hours per week This course is a study of the properties of lines, angles, surfaces and solids; definitions; theorems and constructions for which formal proofs have been developed; measurements of lines, angles, areas, and volumes; and geometric construction. |

Prerequisite: Completion of Math 115 with grade of "C" or better, or equivalent. Lecture 5 hours per week This course provides a study of the fundamental laws of algebra, exponents and radicals, solution of equations (linear, quadratic and some of higher degree), solution of systems of equations (linear and quadratic), graphic representation, functions, logarithms, determinants, binomial theorem and arithmetic and geometric sequences and series. |

In addition, topics from analytic geometry are discussed including the conic sections, graphing, slopes, complex numbers and vectors. |

Prerequisite: Trigonometry (Math 240); and four semesters of high school algebra or equivalent (Math 115, 125 and 260) Lecture 5 hours per week This is the first of a sequence of three courses which combines the subject matter of analytic geometry and calculus. Functions and graphs are studied with special attention to straight lines and conic sections. Rates of change, derivatives and integrals of polynomials and rational functions are included. Vector methods are introduced into the geometric aspects of the course. These topics were selected to prepare the student mathematically for Physics 1. |
