Customs, Rites, & Rituals Across Cultures
First, use our Resource Guide to locate books and other resources already in the library
Next, search for books on your own using the following method. Go to the catalog
Catalog
Search for
"rites and ceremonies"
To your search, add another term that describes the particular lifespan event you are researching (for example: birth, marriage, death)
Your final search may look like: "rites and ceremonies" and birth
Click Subject
Next, find articles in one of our full-text article databases, for example JSTOR
JSTOR only allows keyword searching, not subject searching, so choose your words carefully. Spelling counts!
If your paper is on the comparison of birth rituals between Chinese and Mexican societies, your search may be:
(birth OR childbirth) cultural (China OR Mexic*)
including the parentheses.
As with any search process, you will probably need to revise or refine your search terms depending on the results you get.
