Connecting to Library Databases

Students:

Your username is the first 3 letters of your last name, the first letter of your first name, and the last four digits of your student ID number -- NOT your social security number. If you don't know your new ID number (it begins with 88), you can connect to the Student Information System. Your ID should appear on the first screen after you log in.
Your password is the two digits of your birthday month and the two digits of your birthday day.
Note: If your last name is fewer than three characters, then use your full last name. If your last or first names or middle initial include special characters such as apostrophes, dashes, or spaces, please omit them from the login name.

Examples:

First Name Middle

Troubleshooting

LAHC Library uses server based software called EZproxy to facilitate access to its online subscriptions for off campus users. Below are some frequently asked questions that may help you if you are experiencing problems accessing the online resources.

Why isn't my login working?

Make sure you're typing your user name and password correctly, according to the instructions. Accounts are only active for registered students in any given session or semester. Accounts are made inactive between semesters. Unless you are registered for the Winter Intersession, your account won't be active during January. Unless you are registered for a Summer session, your account won't be active from June through August.

Do I need to enable Cookies?

You will need to make sure your browser accepts cookies. Check here to see if your browser is set to accept cookies and instructions on how to enable them.

Why can't I use the AOL Browser for off campus access?

If you are currently using an AOL browser and want to successfully access the Library's resources from off-campus, please download Netscape Navigator, Mozilla or Microsoft Internet Explorer. Minimize AOL and open one of these browsers to access the resources.

I got a Hostname error. What do I do?

You will get a Hostname Error page when you try to access an address (domain) in one of our databases that has not been set up for use by EZproxy. Database vendors often change their domain names without informing libraries. We might not know of these changes until you report a Hostname Error. Once reported, we can edit our Ezproxy settings so that access becomes available.

To help us correct this error, please call the library at 310-233-4481 or submit the problem report.

I am using a firewall on my home computer and I can't connect to the databases.

Depending on the level of security you have set up, there may be problems accessing the databases. If there are, configure your firewall to accept the URL domain 207.62.63.133. If this doesn't work, disable the firewall while you are connecting to the databases.

I have read everything here and still can't access library resources from off campus. Where can I get help?

Please submit a problem report, and we'll try to fix the problem as soon as we can.
