Administration Report
Mr. Rosas reviewed the five announced new full-time faculty hires, citing the benefits of additional full-time faculty hires and reminding senators that, despite the budget crisis, the 75/25 state mandate is again in force, and the District will fine colleges not complying $65,000 per position. All five of the new positions, he added, were selected by the college president from the top seven positions on the the Faculty Hiring Priorities list recommended by the Senate, stating that Dr. Spink had prepared the rationale required when the college president by-passes positions on the list. Mr. Oakes, on behalf of the Faculty Guild, stated that no such rationale had been received. Mr. Rosas secured a copy of the document, establishing that it had been sent to all parties stipulated in the faculty collective bargaining agreement, with the exception of the AFT, an omission he assured Mr. Oakes was accidental. Mr. Oakes strongly questioned the degree to which the specifics of contract are understood and taken seriously by administration and announced that the Guild would be filing a grievance over this concern.
PUBLIC COMMENT
AGS Scholarship Winner
Ms. McMurray reported on the annual AGS conference at San Jose last weekend, where our own Daniel Gutchen won a key award and commended Juanita Naranjo for her selection for the Lomita Chamber of Commerce Golden Apple Award.
ITEMS FOR FUTURE ACTION
District On-Line Program Review Template
Dean Humphreys walked the Senate through the hand-outs summarizing progress to date on the template, which it is hoped will be operational by the fall. The primary documents were an inventory of questions that program reviews customarily ask, along with an inventory of available data from which the facts addressing these quesstions can easily be extracted. Maximum feedback is needed, from student services as well as faculty, in order for the resulting template to accommodate the needs of as many campuses as possible in a way that is as user-friendly as possible. Unanimous consent to appoint a committee to study this proposa in terms of our own Program Review Manual, the committee to consist of those most involved in drafting the Manual, including Ms. J. Smith, Mr. Wood, Ms. Fasteau, Dr. Thomas-Spiegel, Mr. Stanbery, and Leije to represent Student Services.
Recovery Specialist and Mental Health Worker AA and Certificate Program: Notice of Intent
Referring senators to the handout she had distributed, Dr. Tull reminded senators that the Curriculum Committee recommended this proposal and obtained Senate approval for it two years ago but it was sent forward to the state in a mistaken category and must be re-authorized in the correct one. The program would be a joint effort of the LACCD and the L.A. Co. Dept. of Mental Health, and the hand-out sketched three modules of proposed activity, target populations, and potential funding sources.
