PUBLIC COMMENT
Honoring June Smith as a Distinguished Woman of the Year
Bill Orton, field representative of State Sen. Rod Wright, was introduced as a special guest to pay the respects of the senator to Ms. J. Smith for her selection by the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce as a distinguished woman of the year.
Administration Report
Dr. Spink briefly summarized the college budgetary situation, stating that she did not see how we could meet the reduction targets and continue to offer a comprehensive program. The district is encouraging a minimal summer session beginning in July, and the college administration intends to comply. Mr. Orton then commented on the budgetary picture in Sacramento.
ASO Report
Mr. Diaz reported that the new ASO senate has been inducted and new officers sworn in. Special elections will be held to confirm interim senators.
COMMENTS ON DISTRIBUTED REPORTS/NOTICES/COMMITTEE MINUTES
Curriculum Committee
Ms. Fasteau drew the Senate's attention to the written report that had been distributed, announcing that flex activities will soon be publicized to enable faculty to use the new ECD (Electronic Curriculum Development) software, which will greatly ease the filing of curriculum proposals. She also "noticed" a certificate and degree program for adoption at the next Senate meeting, assuming approval of it at the next Curriculum Committee meeting.
Facilities
Mr. Young reported the change in meeting time for his committee, made to accomodate the expanded schedule of CPC meetings. He also alerted senators to the potential impact on the loop road of running dirt-hauling trucks eight hours a day for five days while the excavation for the new parking structure is taking place. The safety subcommittee will be conducting office inspections. An IT person will be on duty during night and weekend classes as contractually required.
