ITEMS/MOTIONS NOTICED FOR ACTION NOVEMBER 2
Action on Accreditation, Planning, and Program Review
After explanatory remarks by Mr. Wood and Ms. J. Smith and supportive comments by several senators, an amendment to the second "whereas clause" in the motion as noticed was moved and unanimously adopted, after which the motion as amended was unanimously approved, to read as follows:
Whereas the Academic Senate is responsible for overseeing both the college governance and accreditation processes, and
Whereas the Accreditation Self-Study commits the college to a specific planning process and a series of planning goals, and
Whereas the College mission emphasizes student success through learning and instruction, and
Whereas Academic Program Review supersedes college academic planning, and
Whereas in the past, the College has envisioned itself as doing college-wide planning, and
Whereas, under the current participatory governance structure, the College Academic Affairs Committee asserts primary leadership for integrating program review with college-wide planning, and
Whereas the College Planning Council primarily functions to act on the college’s vision and planning priorities, and
Whereas college-wide planning must address all academic goals and student needs, and
Whereas an immediate administrative response to program review work already submitted to it is required,
The Harbor College Academic Senate authorizes the Senate President and Vice President to reach an agreement with the President of the College that addresses these concerns and needs, and
The Harbor College Academic Senate and all faculty members will hold all accreditation activities in abeyance until such agreement is reached.
Faculty Hiring Priorities
After Ms. Smith and several other senators had commented on the list of priorities and justifications as distributed, and the unanimous adoption of the proviso provided for below, MSU to adopt the listings as modified accordingly [see attachment].
Unanimous consent to request the College President to respond to this recommendation by December 21 in accordance with the provisions of the faculty hiring priorities manual and of Article 33 of the collective bargaining agreement.
OPEN FORUM ON FACULTY AND STAFF ISSUES AND CONCERNS
Unanimous consent to conduct the forum by recess to a committee of the whole with Ms. Thomas-Spiegel presiding.
