Administrative Report

          Dr. Spink reported that a report on the district budget allocation model has been issued and a task force will be appointed to propose a revised model accordingly reflecting changes in the state allocation model.  Ms. J. Smith drew the Senate's attention to the hand-out she'd distributed comparing graduation rates for students of adjunct and regular faculty.  Dr. Spink said she could provide comparable data for Harbor College; that the college would participate in another allocation grant review process; and that a new proposal for a Title V grant is being developed.

 

CONSENT ITEMS

          Unanimous consent to designate a committee to nominate candidates as the Senate's representatives on the following college committees, and to propose language specifying their terms for inclusion in the appropriate documents:

          3 CPC representatives at large;

          4 Academic Affairs Committee representatives;

          4 Student Services Committee representatives;

          4 Administrative Services Committee representatives;

          1 President's Cluster Committee representatives;

          2 Budget Committee representatives;

          3 Staffing Committee representatives;

          3 Staff Development Committee representatives

 

          Ms. McMurray urged senators to make sure their divisions each have a representative on the relevant district discipline committees.

         

COMMENTS ON DISTRIBUTED REPORTS/NOTICES/COMMITTEE MINUTES

 

Senate Committees:

A.      Curriculum

          Distance Learning Subcommittee.  Ms. Fasteau repeated certain essentials of her previous report, and also noticed the intent of the Curriculum Committee to consider the following course proposals at its next meeting:

          Personal Development 20 (3 units - on-line version of existing course)

          Business 5 - 3 units (on-line version of existing course)

          CIS 21 (3 units - addition of existing district course)

          Ms. McMurray inquired about training in course outline writing, and Mr. Wood assured the Senate that several flex activities have been scheduled for this year.

H.      Program Review

          Ms. Thomas-Spiegel reported that the committee evaluations forwarded to the Academic Affairs Committed have not been acted on.  Mr. Wood and Mr. Stanbery made observations on how to move the process forward along with accreditation follow-up.  Ms. Smith offered to put this concern on the APPC agenda.  Ms. Shue alerted the Senate to program viability implications.  Ms. Fasteau commented on administration participation in the program review process.  Ms. McMurray asked for direction as to how best to bring these concerns to the attention of administration.  Ms. Shue proposed that a motion in this regard be on the next Senate agenda.  Ms. J. Smith committed the APPC to develop this motion.  Ms. Watkins suggested that the meetings of the Academic Affairs Committee and Division Council should be separated again.  Mr. McKenzie reminded the Senate of the need to recruit new participants in the process in view of how close to retirement so many participants now are.

I.       Middle College High School Advisory Committee

          Ms. McMurray alerted the Senate to a major issue over student expulsions which may actually jeopardize the future of the program.

 

S1.     Faculty Evaluation Task Force Report

          Mr. Wood distributed the August 16 task force report, stressing that faculty will determine how the achievement of course SLOs will be incorporated into the evaluation process as mandated by the accreditation commission and authorized under the collective bargaining agreement.  Ms. McMurray referred the report to APPC for review and recommendations.
