CONSENT ITEMS

          Faculty Commencement Marshals

          Unanimous consent for Mr. Stanbery and Mr. Young to serve as faculty marshals in this spring's commencement exercises.

          Curriculum Approvals

          After some discussion of distance learning issues in general, Unanimous consent to approve on-line versions of Art 103 and Health 11 as proposed at the April 20 meeting of the Senate.

 

COMMENTS ON DISTRIBUTED REPORTS/NOTICES/COMMITTEE MINUTES

 

Senate Committees:

A.      Curriculum

          IGETC certification has been accorded Biology 101 for Area 5B and Speech 101 for Area 1C and denied for Speech 151 for Area 1C.  CSU General Education Breadth Decisions have been accorded Biology 101 for Areas B2, PE 225 for Area E, and Speech 102 for Area A1; has been conditionally accorded English 101 for Area A2; and has been denied Speech 151 for Area A1.

C.      FHPC

          Ms. Smith drew the Senate's attention to the proposed committee schedule included in the meeting packet.  Mr. McKenzie commented on Dr. Spink's willingness to fill two faculty positions, urging the Senate to recognize that, since the College will be in deficit regardless, we should urge a greater commitment to faculty hiring.  Mr. Stanbery urged the Senate to insist that the various clusters complete their plans, including their staffing priorities, and that the CPC derive a college plan from those cluster plans as College policies require.

E.      Professional Concerns

          Unanimous consent to authorize up to $250 for retiree plaques or other commemorations.

J.       Vocational Education Committee

          Unanimous consent to authorize up to $150 for luncheon expenses for the committee's day-long rankings session.

 

CPC and Other Committees/Concerns:

T.      ASCCC

          Ms. Smith drew the Senate's attention to her written summary of State Academic Senate actions at the April 29 plenary session, urging senators to consult the ASCCC website on which resolutions adopted will soon be posted.  She then highlighted important aspects of the discussions.

          Ms. McMurray urged all faculty to consider serving as faculty mentors.
