Special Order: Greetings from Beth Smith, on behalf of ASCCC
After the meeting was called to order at 1:09, Ms. Beth Smith , visiting on behalf of the ASCCC, was introduced to update the Senate on the State Academic Senate's current work.
ASO Report
Ms. Castillo reported on the purchase of a barbeque unit for general use and announced the winners of the recent ASO elections: Rachel Richards, ASO president; Kenneth Gulley, ASO vice president; Liz Anceno, ASO vice president for finance.
CONSENT ITEMS
Senate representatives on the president's cluster
Unanimous consent to designate Mr. McKenzie, Ms. Watkins, Dr. Joiner, and Ms. Reigadas as the Senate's representatives to the President's Cluster.

In that the courses involved had been noticed for action at today's meeting but not included on the noticed agenda, there was Unanimous consent to suspend the rules to consider the three courses involved, followed by unanimous consent to approve the courses as noticed:

Institutional SLOs to be assessed for accreditation
There was some discussion of the status of the several versions of the college's institutional learning outcomes (ILOs) currently in circulation. A committee of CPC will be meeting next Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. to design a revised draft. There was concensus that a proposed draft of college ILOs designating the one intended for college-wide assesment be proposed at the next Senate meeting.
Intervention Process and Equity and Diversity Plans
The essentials of these concerns were briefly discussed. Ms. Watkins recommended that the APPC propose a basis for transferring authority for the diversity fund from the compliance officer to the Senate or Staff Development Committee.
COMMENTS ON DISTRIBUTED REPORTS/NOTICES/COMMITTEE MINUTES
Middle College High School Advisory Committee
The school has achieved another honor in one of its students having won the Gates Award.
Essential Skills Committee
Ms. McMurray noted that a variety of initiatives are underway and reported on the launching of the digital bridge training project. LACCD has reserved twenty slots for a series of workshops scheduled in June and July. There will be a statewide training session on student success software at LBCC on Monday. An all-day Career Ladders Best Practices Workshop will be held on May 9 at Valley College. The committee is recommending that opening day be devoted to essential skills.
