COMMENTS ON DISTRIBUTED REPORTS/NOTICES/COMMITTEE MINUTES

Senate Committees:

B.      Academic Planning and Policies

Mr. Lemon distributed and explained a proposal for the merger of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Divisions, emphasizing the eligibility for secretarial staffing and the increase in representation on college governing bodies that will result.

CPC and Other Committees/Concerns:

N.  Budget Committee

Mr. McKenzie noted that the return to the district of $800,000 in funding advanced against unrealized enrollment growth, along with drops in ancillary revenues such as swap meet profits, has increased this year’s projected budget deficit to $2.5 million.  The failure to meet growth targets is district-wide, and other campuses are also returning growth funds, which the district in turn will be returning to the state.  Mr. McKenzie pointed out that the 50% drop in evening class enrollment from last spring accounts for our net decline, as day enrollment has actually increased.

O.  Facilities Committee

Mr. Young reminded senators of the March 13 ‘Hot Topics’ forum which will feature the district security chief and focus on campus security issues.

P.  Staffing Committee

Mr. Wood reported on continuing concerns about staffing in the clerical services office and the current difficulty that office is experiencing in responding to incoming telephone calls.
