Minutes 03/02/10

 

1] Approval of minutes: Minutes of Dec 1, 2009 will be presented at the next meeting.

 

2] Action items - ECD The CC decided to review course outlines electronically before TRS and meet to discuss the outline with the initiator. The committee will determine if this process can be done 100% online or whether there is a need to continue to meet face to face. The District Office has established the sunset date of June 30, 2010 for colleges to submit MS word documents in order to have them transferred to the new ECD form. The recommendation was made to have the Staff Development Chair set up some workshops for faculty on the use of ECD. (Electronic Curriculum Development) Workshops have been schedules for Thursday March 25, 2010, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 5:00 – 7:00 PM

 

3] Notice of Intent – Recovery and Human Services Certificates and AA degree – B. Young and D. Tull

This program had once been offered at Harbor but the System Office ruled that it had been eliminated several years ago due to inactivity; it needs to be introduced as a new program. The presenters were not able to attend this meeting so the item has been tabled until the April 6, 2009 meeting.

INFORMATION ITEMS

 

4] Board Rule 6201.13 – Residency Requirement

Language is being proposed to implement residency requirements for the AA degree. In order to obtain an AA degree, a student must complete a minimum of 12 units in the district and at least one course during the semester they plan to graduate, at the institution from which they plan to graduate from. Exceptions due to hardship and injustice can be petitioned.

 

5] Board Rule 6202 – Catalog Rights

Student catalog rights are determined by campus where the student matriculated, English and mathematics competency requirements are recognized district-wide.

 

6] Board Rule 6201.6 – General Ed Requirements?

Students pursuing an AA in Nursing who have previously completed a higher degree (bachelors, masters, and doctorate) at another institution will only be required to complete courses required for nursing.

 

7] Board Rule 6204 – Additional AA Degrees

Still in discussion at the District level curriculum committee. The major issue of concern is whether students need to meet current competency in English and math.

 

8] Board Rule 6205 – Unit Limit on Coop Ed Courses

The old limit was 16 units. The new maximum is: 6 units of general and 8 units of occupational work experience.

 

9] Board Rule 6705.20 – Syllabi and Retention of Written work

The District is working on language to include SLOs in the syllabus plus other changes. Instructors must keep written graded work not returned to students for a minimum of one year.

 

10] Articulation – B. Guertin

A review of District-wide database to make the graduation codes consistent within the District has been completed.

 

11] TRS – Via ECD

Anthropology 121 – Anthro. of Religion, Magic and Witchcraft – 3 hrs lec, - 3 units

Addition of existing district course Pre-requisite: None

Degree applicable Rationale: Student/Program Demand

 

12] Items from the Floor

E. Linares: Requested that a Skills Certificate template be created for use by all divisions. They need to be printed in color, thus, Divisions will need to have their computers linked to a network color printers or email the certificates to the reprographics service or Academic Affairs to be printed.

 

 

13] CB 21 Coding - levels below transfer is ongoing, the System Office returned the LACCD’s first draft
