I. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The minutes for the meeting of November 19, 2008 were accepted as presented

Mr. Rosas announced that the President has received a directive from the Chancellor that the campus needs to cut $1 million above and beyond what has already been done. All campuses were going to be affected by the cuts.  Dr. Spink does not want to cut classes or eliminate FTES, but would like to improve efficiency.  Mr. Rosas suggested that we look for Specially Funded Programs that will help Program 100.  The State is blurring the lines on using Specially Funded Programs in order to offset the cuts in Program 100 Funding.

The summer session would last 7 weeks, the start date of this session will be July 6.  The date proposed for the move was January 5, 2009.  The new Buildings will most likely be used for the summer session.

Lauren McKenzie spoke on Block Grants. One block Grant was available for Divisions and the Dean of Instruction would distribute it to those who have completed Unit Plans and Assessments.

Mr. Rosas said that the Pace Program was not on Program Review.  The Program needs to improve its efficiency in order to stay viable, he suggested that the number of tracks be cut down to bring PACE above the college average of 35 or higher.

Dr. Humphreys made an announcement on Basic Skills and on 12/15 Title V Grants were put together.

Mr. Lauren McKenzie said with regards to Curriculum development sometime in the near future Electronic course outlines should be available online and we should be able to download and change information.

Carmen Carrillo announced that a flex intersession focused on Basic skills would be held on January 20, 21 and 22.  Non-credit classes ESL, basic math and tutoring programs that do not grade students.

Mr. Rosas announced that in an effort to cut costs provisional employees assignments are going to be cut. Large programs that make a dent in the budget were going to be looked at. McKenzie they were considering a golden handshake or reduction in workforce.

June Smith spoke about SAPC and the need to come up with Staff Development funds, for staff and faculty and funds for diversity.  She informed the gathering that the Senate was going to make a motion to accomplish this.  The 13th preliminary run through to set up the Educational Master Plan.  At last CPC meeting the Academic Affairs Cluster Plan was discussed which will form the basis of the Educational Master Plan and the other Clusters will work around this.

Mr. Rosas announced that Community Colleges in California are getting great advertising as several radio stations had interviewed Cal State students who spoke highly of Community Colleges, and said that if it weren’t for their local community college they would not have had access to higher education.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
