The primary focus of this meeting was to give the committee members an opportunity to review the unit plans for each division. Each unit head will give an oral presentation of their academic unit plans giving emphasis to the activities they have prioritized and would like to see go forward to be merged into the Academic Affairs cluster plan
Members of the committee were asked to rank each priority using the range of numbers one through five. Five means more important and one means less important. The categories listed on the ballot which members will use in the ranking process include College Strategy, District Strategy, Environmental Scan, Budget Practicality, Essential Skills, and Student Learning Outcomes. The balloting will be completed by a week from today. Dr. Humphreys noted that the committee will come together again next week and if there is no clarity we will reduce the number of options and try again.
Jim Stanbery stated that there is nothing wrong at all with having a second ballot. The first ballot is crucial for getting everybody to focus on some things but there is nothing at all wrong if considerable further discussion ensues.
Sally Fasteau asked for clarification. My understanding is that we have our base budget that we operate for year to year and that we create unit plans so that we can operate from year to year so if we don’t have it in our unit plan we cannot do it. Now we are prioritizing our unit plans and what comes up on top is going to go to college CPC and those items may or may not get funded. What about all the rest of it if it is part of tutoring or equipment? Discussion of how prioritization fits into the budget process. Prioritzation of new and current activities. Accreditation wants to see data driven decision making.
CPC has to have a prioritization process.
Presentations of unit plan priorities were given in the following order:
Carmen Carrillo presented for the Communications Division; Mark Wood presented for the Humanities and Fine Arts Division; Brad Young presented for the Social and Behavioral Sciences; Nabeel Barakat presented for the Health and Physical Education Division; Sally Fasteau presented for the Learning Assistance Center;
Lauren McKenzie presented for the Math and Physical Science Division; Stanley Sandell presented for the Business Division; Joyce Parker presented for the Science and Family and Consumer Studies Division.
Dr. Humphreys asked the chairs to get any additional changes to him by the following day. He will redo the ballot with all the information that is required and send it out by e-mail to committee members.
