Course Offerings

Geology 1: Physical Geology   3 Units  UC: CSU
Recommended corequisite: Geology 6.
Lecture 3 hrs per week
This introductory course surveys the materials and structure of the earth, and the processes which modify it. Major topics to be studied include rocks and their mineral composition, plate tectonics, volcanoes, and earthquakes. Also studied will be the agents of erosion, the work of rivers, glaciers, wind, mass movements, and the oceans. Field trips to geological sites of southern California are made.

Geology 6: Physical Geology Laboratory   2 Units  UC: CSU
Pre requisite or corequisite: Geology 1.
Lecture 1 hr, and laboratory 2 hrs per week
This course supplements Geology 1 by providing practical experience in the identification of minerals and rocks, reading of maps, and aerial photographs, and study of fossils.
(GEOL 1 + 6 = CAN GEOL 2)

Geology 11: Introduction to Geology: Our National Parks and Monuments
3 Units  UC: CSU
This course is the same as Environmental Science 8. Credit is allowed in only one of Environmental Science 8, or Geology 11.
Lecture 3 hrs per week
Designed for the non-science major, this course presents basic principles of geology taught through examples from the national parks and monuments of the United States. Landscape interpretation and regional geology are emphasized.
