4th semester Practicum
Practicum Explanation
Welcome to the Practicum. Practicums are to ensure student learning of procedures i.e., vital signs, foley cath insertion, etcetera. We currently hold practicums at the end of first semester, before the beginning of 4th semester, and for entry into the program for LVN’s.
Please arrive before your assigned time; in uniform as if you were in the clinic and to have any tools or references you may need (drug books/ med cards) also a black pen for documentation.
Fourth semester students
- Dates for Summer Intersession 2011 Practicum TBA: Practicum Testing For Spring 11 Students Completed
- Directions: Bring a copy of all procedures to the practice sessions as they will be used for grading during the practicum.
- Practice sessions will be held in the NLL on January 18, 19, and 20th from 8-12 and 1 to 4.
- Grading – you will have 2 procedures in 30 minutes, each procedure is worth 5 points for a total of 10. You must score at least 75 % (15/20) with no critical errors in orders to receive credit for each procedure. If you do receive a score less than five you will need to remediate and retest, with no credit, before the beginning of the semester.
- Procedures include; Insulin algorithm (everyone), and one of the following: NT Suctioning, Urinary Catheter insertion (male and female), medications via IV pump and central line dressing change.
