Harbor loses heartbreaker to

Long Beach City

On the final possession of the game, a questionable, yet costly foul call on John Raquel gave host Long Beach City free throws with 0.2 seconds left in the game and the eventual game-winning one-point victory Friday evening over the men's basketball team, which saw its faint playoff hopes dashed with the 64-63 loss.

Raquel, who finished with a game-high 16 points, keyed a 12-3 run to end the game, capped by three free throws by Kevin Dawson (12 points for the game), who was fouled attempting a 3-point shot with less than a minute left.

On LBCC's final possession, Raquel was called for a desperation jump shot foul from the free throw line. One of two free throws was made and Harbor (12-14, 4-4 South Coast Conference) was out of time outs with the little time remaining.

Sheldon Allen led the team with nine rebounds, as Harbor finished one win short of qualifying for an at-large berth in the regional playoffs. Harbor improved from last year's seven-win season with a balance lineup that was led by Raquel, who finished averaging 15.4 points per game for the season. Dawson, who finished second on the team in scoring with 11.8 points per game, is expected to return next season along with Tyler Nelson, who was often the team's top assist man with 88 for the season, 3.4 per game.
