SEAHAWKS CUTS BIG DEFICIT, BUT FALL SHORT TO VISITING FALCONS
One more late charge in what has been a dramatic week of sorts for the Harbor baseball team did not go in the team's favor this time around, as the Seahawks fell 13-9 to Cerritos College in Harbor's final home game of the season Tuesday afternoon.
On the Seahawks' sophomore day, Francisco Sixtos, Matt Salas, Jared DeCastro, Marc Venning and Jonathan Kim all contributed in their final at-bats in the blue and gold. Sixtos was 2-of-4 with four RBI and a run scored, while Salas went 2-of-5 with a run scored.
DeCastro, the team's leader in hitting percentage (.390) was held without a hit in four at-bats, but recorded an RBI after hitting a sacrifice fly to center field in the 8th inning.
Venning and Kim each went 1-of-5, with Venning notching 2 RBI and Kim one RBI. Fellow sophomores Chris Park, Ryan Young and Chris Anderson all got time at the mound, with Park pitching 5.2 innings as the starter (2-5) before being replaced by Young. Anderson struck out two hitters in the 9th in three at-bats.
Harbor (14-20-1, 8-12 South Coast Conference) trailed by as much as 13-1 before racking off six runs in the 7th, led off by Salas double to right center field, followed by Phil Alvarez's huge RBI triple to left field that scored Salas.
The Seahawks managed to get four RBI in the last three at-bats before reaching their 3rd out, as Sixtos doubled down the left line for two RBI and pinch hitter Marcel Lingad doubled to right field for two more RBI.
After holding the Cerritos bats at bay through the 9th, Harbor got a bases loaded situation and one more score on the board after William Loza popped an RBI single to left field to score Martin Lemus. But Salas flew out to right field on the next at-bat to end the game.
Harbor will conclude its regular season at Cerritos Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
